for Charities and NGOs
Behind every charity is a story that deserves to be told well. Not polished into something unrecognisable, but told with honesty, warmth, and the kind of craft that makes someone stop, watch, and feel something.
At The Production Dept., we work with charities, hospices, and NGOs to create content that communicates the real impact of their work — to donors, supporters, volunteers, and the wider public. We're based in Yorkshire, we've worked with organisations across the north of England, and we understand the particular pressures that come with charity commissioning — tight budgets, multiple stakeholders, and the responsibility of representing real people with care and dignity.
What We Do for Charities and NGOs
We Understand How Charities Work
Budget accountability matters to us as much as it does to you. We offer competitive rates for charity clients, reduced day rates for longer projects, and a straightforward 50/50 payment structure that helps with cash flow planning. We don't pad quotes, and we don't charge for things you don't need.
We also understand the sensitivity that comes with much of this work. Representing beneficiaries, patients, and vulnerable people on camera requires care, patience, and genuine respect — not just a signed release form. We've worked in hospice settings, with community organisations, and alongside frontline care staff, and we approach every subject with the dignity they deserve.
Our Work with St Leonards Hospice
We've had the privilege of working with
St Leonards Hospice in York on a number of occasions, producing content that celebrates the extraordinary dedication of their care-at-home teams and the compassionate work they do every day.
One project involved a video series documenting the hospice's care-at-home staff — the people who support patients and families through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Shot with sensitivity and delivered across the hospice's social media channels and website, the series generated a significant increase in public awareness, supporter engagement, and donations.
It's the kind of work we consider a genuine privilege to be trusted with.
Who We Work With
We work with communications directors and managers responsible for telling the organisation's story across all channels, fundraising teams who need compelling campaign content to drive donations and grant applications, campaign managers running specific awareness or appeal projects, social media and digital teams who need a regular supply of authentic, platform-ready content, and smaller organisations where the CEO or director is directly commissioning content themselves.
Why Charities Choose Us
-

We keep budgets honest.
We know charitable funds are accountable to trustees, donors, and regulators. We price transparently, offer reduced rates for longer projects, and never recommend more than you actually need.
-

We work with sensitivity.
Content involving beneficiaries, patients, or vulnerable people requires more than technical skill. It requires genuine care. We've worked in these environments and we know how to put people at ease, maintain dignity, and produce content that represents them well.
-

We deliver content that works hard.
Charity content needs to inspire action — a donation, a volunteer sign-up, a social share. We keep those outcomes in mind throughout the production process, not just the visual result.
-

We're straightforward to work with.
One point of contact, clear communication, and no surprises on delivery day. We know how stretched charity communications teams are, and we make the process as manageable as possible.
In 2024, we partnered with a hospice to create a heartfelt video series celebrating the incredible work of their care-at-home staff. By showcasing the compassion and dedication that goes into supporting patients and their families, we helped to shine a light on the vital role they play in the community. The series, shared across social media and the hospice’s website, significantly boosted public awareness and engagement, resulting in a notable increase in support and donations.
