Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa: where luxury meets the wild outdoors -the perfect duo.
Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa
First Impressions of Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa
As you look up at this 4* hotel and spa, it is nothing short of impressive. Its idyllic, calming surroundings draw you in immediately. The natural, cascading waterfall frames both the hotel and spa, allowing the two to blend beautifully into the landscape, yet still holding their own against the dramatic backdrop.
The entrance is large and spacious, yet inviting. Wooden benches line the way, home to muddied boots worn by likeminded explorers. Inside, the cream-and-gold décor feels classy, neutral and warm. Subtly scattered across the walls are sepia photographs, archaic images that whisper memories of the past and gently lure you into the history of this once stately home.
One image drew me in more than the others: a male figure whose presence dominated the frame more than the grandeur of the house behind him. His steely eyes held mine, and at his feet stood a crowd of hounds and working dogs, poised as though still waiting for their next command. My attention then drifted to the crackling fire behind the pillar that held this photograph, a reminder of the warmth and life that continues to fill this space today.
A Warm Welcome and Thoughtful Accessibility
From the moment I checked in, the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. Their gentle, attentive manner immediately put me at ease, leaving me feeling genuinely cared for - a rare feeling for a teacher used to looking after others. Staff also offered to transport our bags from the car, which I appreciated as a blue badge holder, though the disabled and electric car spaces are conveniently located right outside the entrance, with the main car park adjacent.
Inside Our Cosy and Elegant Suite
Choosing the stairs over the snug lift, we stepped into our cosy yet surprisingly spacious suite. A locally sourced autumnal bouquet, beautifully arranged and thoughtfully organised by my husband, greeted me as we entered. The room felt elegant and inviting, spotless and warm, with a bed as soft as a giant marshmallow, ready to soothe our tired legs before the adventures ahead.
Dining at The Falls Brasserie
The hotel’s range of dining options is equally impressive. The Falls Brasserie offers a varied, colourful buffet breakfast alongside a beautiful menu of cooked alternatives. My taste buds happily settled on the eggs florentine, accompanied by tantalisingly fresh coffee. And as if that wasn’t enough, your eyes are met by the picture perfect backdrop of Catbells and Derwent Water - what a treat!
In the evening, the dishes were sophisticated and almost Michelin-like in presentation, though I don't claim to be a food critic. Several vegetarian options were available, but I was personally lured by the lamb rump, an autumnal treat that warmed me from the inside out. The experience was elevated by the staff, whose kindness, spirit and care shone through. Like Santa’s elves, they worked tirelessly, their warm greetings and joyous energy adding to the brasserie’s charm.
Mizu Pan Asian Restaurant: A Flavourful Highlight
My personal favourite, however, was the Mizu Pan Asian restaurant. It tempted us with a vibrant range of Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai dishes. The space buzzed with energy as dishes arrived sizzling to each table. From tasting menus to fragrant curries, freshly made sushi and plentiful platters, there is something to awaken every taste bud. Whether you’re after a family meal or a romantic dinner, Mizu’s dynamic menu, offering both vegetarian options and grilled meats, caters for all.
A Spa Worth Its Own Story
As mentioned, there is a beautiful, luxurious and idyllic spa sat just to the right of the hotel - but that deserves its own blog post.
